Government secrecy? It's A-Okay if you're the Bush Administration (Dick Cheney and his energy commission come to mind), but if you're Howard Dean and you're running for president as a Democrat, then the Republicans are all about full disclosure.

From Bad to Worse

As if concentrating nearly all sentencing power in the hands of politically-motivated prosecutors weren't bad enough, now Attorney General Ashcroft wants to monitor which federal judges depart downward in sentencing. I can't wait for them to move for recusal or impeachment because a judge departs downward too often.

Screwing Daniel Boone

As a distant nephew of Daniel Boone (I hope I haven't revealed too much about my secret identity), I would like to register my outrage at a piddling congressman, Hal Rogers, bumping my great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great uncle from his rightful place: naming a highway in eastern Kentucky. The Floyd County Times of Prestonburg, KY says, "For all of Rogers' ability to bring the gravy home from Washington, it pales in comparison to the legendary life of Boone." Amen.

To What Depths?

To what depths will opponents of Rev. V. Gene Robinson go? Is there anyone out there who thinks that these new accusations are, in the best light, nothing more than touched-up homophobia or, at worst, a last-ditch conspiratorial effort to play off the Catholic priest scandals?
